Sophia discovered the field of planning while preparing her Senior Capstone at Skidmore College. She graduated cum laude in May 2008 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Management and Business. Planning was a natural fit with Sophia's “jack-of-all-trades” personality. Sophia has spent nearly a decade working within Saratoga County as a municipal planner, reviewing residential, commercial, and industrial development. She’s held positions as Senior Planner and Stormwater Management Officer for the Town of Malta and the Town of Ballston. During this time, she helped lead multiple zoning code updates, helped implement one of the first Form-Based Codes in New York State, conducted hundreds of project reviews, and supported Planning, Zoning, and Town Boards alike.
Along the way, Sophia was nudged toward stormwater management and learning about the fundamentals of erosion and sediment control. Stormwater management presented the opportunity to watch projects take shape from plans to site, and combined her passions for environmental sciences and construction. In spring of 2014, Sophia became a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). She is well-versed in NYSDEC's MS4 Program Regulations and skilled in conducting construction site inspections for stormwater compliance. Field work has been, and remains, one of her favorite areas of work. Sophia became an AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) in November 2019. During the Fall of 2020, Sophia taught a graduate level Environmental Planning course as an adjunct faculty instructor at the University at Albany. Plan and Site Consulting, LLC was formed out of a desire to take years of municipal experience and bridge the gap between public and private sectors. Sophia has worked with all trades that make responsible development possible, and is excited to help improve the process and relationships between municipalities and applicants. In January 2021, Plan and Site Consulting, LLC received designation as a New York State Certified WBE (Women Business Enterprise) through the Department of Economic Development, Division of Minority and Women's Business Development. Sophia lives in Ballston Lake, NY with her husband and two children. |
